Texans are doing everything in their power to help the stranded ones affected by Hurricane Harvey. While 911 calls were blowing up leaving many people in grave danger, Texans were warning everyone to stay off the line unless their life is at extreme risk. They realized that the most beneficial way to get people to safety was to do-it-yourself, a distinct Texan attitude.
“In a storm of Harvey’s sheer monstrousness — hundreds of miles across, lingering for days with bucketing rain that swallowed roads and initially kept rescue aircraft grounded — no government response could ever have been enough,” states The Washington Post.
This is what created a drive for Texans to act. They’ve been setting the bar extremely high, influencing citizens from other states to participate in these rescue missions; however, the job isn’t done yet. The urgency to help is higher than it’s ever been because people have been stranded for days without power. With Hurricane Irma on the rise, Houston needs help in the fastest manner possible. Anyone with rescuing knowledge and/or a boat should be in contact with The American Red Cross so they’re able to set up efficient rescue missions.
A reoccurring problem is that people are aimlessly driving down to Houston without a plan or any knowledge of how to save these people. The American Red Cross has issued a donations area on their website to help the victims of Hurricane Harvey. This allows the entire United States to help support these people during this time and gets everyone to safety as quickly as possible. Any support is gravely appreciated and put to significant use.
