The Journalism and Communications Research Prep Session was a complete success. The turnout was beyond our expectations and we received major feedback for years to come. Students were able to fully understand what was expected of them as well as preparing them for the conversations to be taken place. Our mission was to successfully prepare students for the potential careers they were going to be offered.
“I’m so happy I attended the Research Prep Session,” said Maggie Lars, Iowa State student. “I just wish we would have been doing these sessions the whole time.”
We received extremely beneficial input about how to make the research session even more helpful. Students pointed out that there should have been a couple more jobs added to the prep list so that there was more of a variety of jobs to prepare for. It also helps them practice for all different types of jobs which will better prepare them for curve balls in the future. We plan on continuing to enhance this session to it’s fullest potential so students are getting as much help as they need. We will also have miniature sessions throughout the semester so that students continue to better their elevator pitches and basic communication between employer and potential employee.
