Policy Discussion Notes and Response

Assignment Details from Syllabus:

We will have dual discussions and readings during most of our class sessions. Each student will be responsible to lead a policy topic discussion for half of a class period on their chosen topic. Select your topic and one reading before Sept 8 and write a short statement telling
me why you are interested. I will add an additional reading after I have explored the topic and everyone in the class will read the articles together. You may choose the style of your discussion/presentation. Your family impact analysis should be related to this topic.

Ways to Use This Page:

This can be a process page, with students adding things as they go, or a completed project page after they’ve led discussion. Students should think about adding:

  • Written notes from their reading
  • Links to resources
  • Video of news segments that pertain to their topic (See our resources on how to add video)
  • Screenshots of policy websites (See our resources on how to add images)
  • Other resources or media that may help them think about their topic

If recording the class discussion is allowed, students could also add video of themselves leading the discussion. If not, they could add a transcript of the questions they were asked. Finally, students should consider writing up a reflection of this discussion and its outcomes, to process what they’ve learned during this assignment.
