What’s you or your child’s favorite part about Halloween? If the answer is trick-or-treating, better make sure no one over the age of 12 is participating.
Senator Joyce Mc Joyce’s law to limit the age of trick-or-treaters passed through congress last week. The law states no one over the age of 12 is to participate in trick-or-treating festivities past 8 p.m. Trick-or-treating over the age limit may result in a fine that varies by city, but tops off at $150.
“Safety is our main priority with this law. Parents and homeowners shouldn’t have to worry about their child’s security this Halloween,” said Mc Joyce.
According to Howard Blau Law, only one out of three parents talk to their kids annually about Halloween, although three out of four report having Halloweens safety fears. This law provides ease of parents and homeowners with officials monitoring trick-or-treaters more carefully while having an age limit.
“After hearing so many reports on older kids going around to young children scaring them, I feel much safer knowing there’s an age limit this year,” said Benjamin Atkins, a father of three living in a West Des Moines suburb.
Other things parents can do to ensure their children’s safety and security include accompanying them while trick-or-treating or have them go in groups, as well as putting reflective tape somewhere on their costumes to ensure cars can see them.
