We talked about how the three different countries made different apology formats. The three countries were Canada, Australia and America. The different countries spoke about being very sorry for what they have done to the native people of that land they have inhabited. Canada had a very sincere apology and made you feel very understanding of how much they did not mean for all this to happen and they would like to really say sorry and hopefully resolve their differences and one day have peace and live together. Australia’s talked about turning the page of the history and starting fresh. They even stated they know they were wrong in taking away the native children. Like that is very rare for a whole country to apologize for their wrongs. They said they are saddened by every loss of an Ausie person. Then came the worst of them all The United States of America, they did not care about apologizing to anyone they just assume that they are the big bad dogs of the world and almost do not want to own up for their own mistakes. It is very sad learning all about the crappy things that the united states has done to these now poor Native people who were here first.

I agree. The apologies made by Australia and Canada seemed to be really sincere and they acknowledged their wrongdoings. They also made a plan to make amends and turn the page into a new chapter of peace. The United States on the other hand, seemed to just apologize because they felt obligated to. The apology didn’t really offer any real regret or acknowledgement of what they had done wrong, and as we are learning there are a lot of thing the United States really needs to apologize for. Also the fact that the “apology” is just tossed in a document with a bunch of legal talk does not seem apologetic at all.

I would have to agree with you and to add on that the Australian apology was a very authentic and sincere. The upbringing of Australia had an interesting history because it comes from the time of European explorers pushing back the aboriginal people and trying to essentially get them off the island. This story sounds very familiar to the history of North America and Columbus showing up to end the native race. However, the Commonwealth of Australia apologized to its aboriginal people for the constant hardship that they forced upon them. The most important part of the apology was the part where they said that they are trying to show mutual respect.
