When assigned our next big assignment of a research paper, I thought it would be easy to decide on a topic. Turns out I am having difficulty narrowing one down even after our small workshop to find sources and scholarly articles today in class. The topics I came up with are fairly broad. In my top three I have, 1.) Native American languages, how they developed from the beginning and how they are today, 2.) Native American school system: how and what they teach, and 3.) The gender roles and social dynamic of men and women in Native American culture. I found most sources on the last two. There was hardly any scholarly articles on the type of language topic I was looking for. I am sure there will be a lot of research to cover about schooling in the Native American community because of the history of boarding schools. However, I am not looking to include too much information about the boarding schools. I would rather focus on what they are doing today in school, and what they are learning. The same goes for the gender roles of men and women. I would like to include information in my paper about the past gender roles because I found it interesting how the women were the leaders and in charge before Christopher Columbus came over. But I would also include how the dynamics are today.
