Our discussion in class about John Collier and all he did as the commissioner of the Bureau of Indian Affairs, some of it was good some of it was bad. I thought the way he got rid of the allotment act was a great step forward in helping the native Americans because now they are able to get some of their land back that they lost with the allotment act being put in place. I also liked that he decided that native americans should be apart of the Bureau of Indian Affairs, with native americans in the program it allows them to have a say in what is going on and they can make changes that will benefit natives more. I also thought that ending boarding schools was a very good idea. The schools were helping in some ways but they were doing more harm than good to the native people. They were destroying families by taking kids away and forcing them to change and learn the ways of the Europeans and forget everything they know about their native cultures. One more really good thing I think he did was creating a multi- million dollar credit for the native americans to pull from to get capital to start a business and get the equipment needed.
