Wednesday in class we talked about that book we were assigned to read for the last two weeks. This book is a fictional story that relates a lot to what we have learned in class in a certain way. This book really talked about a time in the future where the world went to crap. The book does very good on not using racist stereotypes that discriminate against their culture. The reasoning behind this that the writer of this book is a Native woman writing about the native people reaching out to the youth of the Native Americans. It really makes it an enjoyable read when it is a Native talking to a Native. This book will diffidently help the youth feel empowered and not to fear being an Indian. This book will help them trust their religion and practices and to embrace all of their past history. It will help them fully buy in and not to be scared of the changing world around them, they will be powerful and not scared of the outside world and wear their colors with pride. The author did a very good job using their spiritual beliefs in good practices on page 172.

I’m glad you brought up page 172 because that is one of the best signs of symbolism shown in this book. When Minerva is hooked up to the machine, she started enriching herself in native culture, and the machines are destroyed. This is symbolism that the people will never be able to extract or understand some parts of native culture. The native culture is so rich and detailed that some parts are indescribable to another person and only people in tribe will understand these intricate subjects. The book showed me the obstacle that many natives face when it comes down to cultural appropriation, and taking valuable items without consent.
