Intro to American Indian Studies

Tayvonn Kyle Intro

My name is Tayvonn Kyle, and I was born in Panama City, Florida. I moved to south Georgia at a young age and took on the sport of football. I’ve been playing ever since I was 6 years old. That’s one reason I came here to Ames to play for Iowa State University. Another reason is for the great education. I plan to major in finance, and ISU has an amazing business program with a very high job-placement rate. Furthermore, I love the environment and the demeanor Iowans carry on a day to day basis.

I’m excited to be in this class because it’s a great introductory course in which I can be exposed to different things that I have never really paid close attention to before. I grew up watching older television shows with my grandma and some of them included Indians. Also, I used to play little games such as “Cowboys and Indians” in which I would find myself playing the Indian’s role. Despite all of this, I never really knew much about Indians outside of the face paint, spears, and loud chants while riding horseback. That is why I look forward to digging a bit deeper into the background and practices of Indians. Therefore, I can get a better understanding of their culture and not just accept them as the picture that has been painted in my head by society.
