Michael Thompson on Yuki genocide

Genocide is one of those words that is a 20th century invention. It was originally coined by Ralph Lemkin for his 1944 book Axis Rule in Occupied Europe. The term was later adopted by the U.N. in order to come up with some phrase to describe the deaths of millions of people at the hands of the Nazis.

The United States created its own definition of genocide. It’s similar to the U.N.’s but the U.S. makes clear to make a distinction between intention to destroy a race and the U.N. does not. But even making that distinction the American genocide is still genocide by its it’s own definition. Throughout the history of Yuki genocide there were countless acts of White men deliberately starving out whole populations, or slaughtering women and children.

In 1928 interview Hitler cited the United States conquest of the west as a model for the policy of Lebensraum. Hitler’s attack on a race of people was an inspiration for the term genocide. So it is interesting that it comes full circle. Hitler was inspired by the U.S., then histories take the 20th century term to look back at America’s conquest of the West.
