Week 3 Blog 2 Sean Shaw

On Wednesday June 27th we watched a movie called 100 years, the movie was from a recent passed female named Elouise Cobell. When she started asking questions about the missing money of the Indians she never really had the thought of taking on the world’s most powerful government. This movie showed a piece of Indian history that I haven’t learned about yet, the Indian Trust account was in my opinion one of the biggest issues that I believe they have tried to face. When Elouise originally started talking to them she wanted 27.5 billion dollars but at the end of the deal ended up with only 3.4 billion, this left me very upset because I believe they should have got way more money then what they ended up settling with. The Americans have took the land of Indians for hundred’s of years and now they are “helping the Indians” by using their land for oil, gas and water and then tell the Indian community that their money is going to go back to them but in reality we basically we have just been screwing them over because we believe they are inferior to the U.S. Elouise fought this battle for the rights of the elders because they were barely living on the money they had when they could be living such easier lives if they Americans would have followed through with their idea.

Sean, I stand right next to you on how they were chopped down on the price they asked for to get their people out of poverty and able to afford running water and gas. She definitely was a strong lady who faced a bunch of adversity and hate. I really wish the government would give them the money they have earned and needed for the past years. It is very shady on how we can say we are helping them out and using their land and not giving them nearly as much money as they rightfully deserve.
