Canada’s apology for the Indian Residential Schools was very sincere. It showed the government acknowledges the situation and wants to help make a change. The statement seems as if they understand the troubles they put the indigenous people through and how it is affected them now. It’s good that they issued an apology. However, it is worth nothing if the government and people of the country that are not of the indigenous descent don’t treat the Indians with the respect they deserve. The continuation of this unrighteous behavior will just make the indigenous people continue to rant in attempts to try to be considered equal to the rest of the people in America. Some indigenous people may accept this apology while others will just see it as a way to soften them up as a whole. This statement could serve the same purpose as the signing of the bill to pay the Indians what the government owes them. Hopefully, the government changes their ways, and people start to understand and change their ways too. Their needs to be more acknowledgement and these problems need to be more publicized so more people can become active and have a say so in this situation. Then, there may be a chance for change to come.
