Jake Wright – Week 6 Post 2

Last night I watched the movie Wind RiverĀ and I am very glad that I did. The movie itself was amazing and was one of the best movies that I have seen in a long time. This movie was a little hard to watch because of the graphic scenes it contains. It was however a great movie, and in my opinion, it was pretty true to what message the movie was putting out.

In the movie we follow two people, a hunter and an FBI agent (both white) and they try to figure out what happened to a Native American girl on the Wind River Reservation in Wyoming. The movie says that it was based on true events. After looking up the movie on Google to see the true events I found something shocking. The director of the movie said that what happened in this movie is not one isolated incident. He went off and explained that what happens here happens to thousands of Native women every year. Many of them don’t have the luxury of being found, though.

I know that we talked a lot about sexual assault in and around Native American reservations but this movie, in my opinion, really put in perspective what was actually happening. It was a really tough movie to sit through, like I said, but I am glad that I did.

If I wasn’t taking this class this is a movie that I would have watched and enjoyed. It was a movie that anyone can get into and it is on Netflix so I can show it off to my family. 10/10 would recommend.

This movie was so moving to me too Jake. It was definitely one that was hard to watch at times, but at the same time, it really did show how things would go down. I felt so bad for Matt. At first they make you think he was maybe the criminal behind it, but then you see that he fought with his life to defend her. The fact that this stuff actually happens really makes me sad. It actually makes me very angry too. It’s hard to believe that we live in a world where people can actually do these kinds of things. I recommended it to a friend the minute after I was done watching it. It’s things like these that are terribly sad events, but ones that the world should know about.
